Newborn Photo Session

Tiny toes, sweet cuddly moments and the absolute craziness that is the baby bubble. Newborn sessions are the most special way to capture what it all feels like, because in my experience, it's over before you can really let all the details sink in.

After having my first in 2022, I was determined to find an at home photographer to capture my 'now'. I wanted it to feel real, I wanted it to be a true representation of my new life. I thought it was so important to have that. If this sounds like one of your priorities, then I think you may have found your photographer.

What's a newborn session like?

It's a glimpse at your new reality. It's not staged, it's not perfect, but it's real and raw. It's typically is booked in when baby is very little. I recommend between 7-21 days old, but older can work too. I come to your home, a place where you can really feel comfortable and relaxed, for about 2 hours. This is enough time to really let baby (or big sibling) lead the session. If any feeds, nappy changes or cuddles need to happen, then we have ample time to do so. Your house can be messy (please don't feel like you need to clean!) as we only need a few defined spaces. I'll always discuss these locations with you before the session so you know exactly what to expect.

Family photography at home with your newborn

From the moment I walk through the door, your session has started. If you're feeding, making a tea or whatever else, this is all part of your story and I'll be there to capture it all. Just enjoy the time together (trust me the washing up can wait) and let yourselves be present. Your home is the backdrop, a super special memory in itself. I used to love flipping through my grandmother's photo albums and I'd laugh at the tacky 60s decor. Her house was a home, it wasn't always perfect in every image, but that really wasn't the point. Your home is special whether you have the new kitchen renovation or not, it's special because it holds memories you'll cherish forever.

Everyone is included in your session (and I'm always happy to include grandparents too). Big brother or sister are an important part of your baby's story and I strive to capture real moments between them. It's never easy to share the spotlight and this is all so new for big bro or sis. My eldest wasn't even two when my second was born and most days she wanted NOTHING to do with her sister and sadly, our newborn session was no exception. At the time, I was gutted we didn't have a 'decent' photo of the two of them. Two years later and my favourite photo is actually one where they were both crying. It was just so real and it constantly reminds me of the bond that took its time to grow. It's literally on my wall! I'll take all the time they need and use all the tricks in my hat, but ultimately, this is the story.

Booking a newborn photoshoot

Now that you've found your newborn photographer (me, hehe), just send me an enquiry message and I'll get back to you asap. Usually it's best to book while you're still pregnant in order to get a date that works for you. I only take on 2-3 newborn shoots a month so that I have flexibility with your due date. We never know when baby will make their grand entrance, so we'll book about 2 weeks after your due date and change if needed.
